Nasal Drops
The only steroid approved as an OTC drug was beclomethasone. However, with Flunase, which contains the newer generation of fluticasone, the options for hay fever sufferers are expanding. Fluticasone-containing Flunase is currently a drug requiring instruction and is sold over the counter only.
These nasal drops use steroids, but since they act only on the mucous membranes of the nasal cavity, they can be used with little concern about side effects specific to steroids.
